smartfiber AG, with its headquarters in Rudolstadt (located in Thuringia, Germany), was founded in 2005.
Smartfiber AG succeeded through a patented process to permanently incorporate natural additives, like zinc or seaweed, into cellulosic fibers, with positive effects on skin and body.
These high-tech fibers under the internationally protected trademarks SeaCellTM LT, SeaCellTM MT and smartcelTM sensitive, are today the basis for innovative products in the textile and nonwovens industry.
The smartfiber AG puts high emphasis on sustainable economic activity and on high environmental standards in the production process of the fibers.
The Lyocell- process is in contrast to the Viscose or cotton process characterised by a modern standard of environmental friendliness, thanks to a closed solvent circuit. By the use of the lyocell process, cellulose is solubilised in a nitrogenous solvent and then brought into a fiber form. The advantage of this production process is that the production takes place in a closed circuit and that no chemicals must be disposed of as waste.
The high-tech fibers under the labels SeaCell™ and smartcel™ sensitive are produced on modern fiber production plant at Lenzing AG in Austria exclusively for smartfiber AG. A highly specialized team of engineers and scientists supervises the production process of the fibers on site. The test laboratories are technically up to date. For more than 70 years, our partner company Lenzing sets standards in quality and innovative strength regarding the industrial production of so-called man-made cellulose fibers.
smartfiber AG pays attention to quality control of the utilised raw materials and end products. smartfiber AG conducts all pollutanttesting at independent institutes. All fibers are certified with Oeko-Tex® standard 100 (approved for babies).
Not only the fibers of smartfiber AG, but also the textiles which are made from these fibers have to pass several tests. After their completion, the function and ingredients of all textiles are tested again. If the tested articles meet all the criteria, they receive the smartfiber AG-label as their quality seal.
Smartfiber AG produces textile fibers based on a patented technology within a spinning process. The possibility of uniform incorporation of natural, organic or inorganic additives into the fibers of smartfiber AG allows the production of different functional fibers based on cellulose. Depending on the additive - such as algae or zinc - the fibers turn out then as skin-protecting, nursing or hygienic. They are completely biodegradable and meet the expectations of modern consumers.
The smartfiberAG has won several technology awards to honour its achievements, one is the renowned German innovation price in 2010.
