smartcel™ sensitive is an innovative fiber based on natural cellulose, which includes the essential trace element zinc. Zinc has perhaps a greater impact on our wellbeing than any other trace element. It is vital for our immune system, sensory functions and metabolism as well as skin regeneration and protection.

Using only high-quality, pharmaceutical grade 4 zinc oxide, smartcel™ sensitive combines zinc’s regenerative and skin protective effects with its hygienic and antibacterial elements. The fiber is produced without the use of aggressive chemicals and is made solely from renewable raw materials, making it both eco-friendly and fully biodegradable.

A fiber that provides care and protection for the skin

smartcel™ sensitive is skin friendly thanks to zinc oxide’s soothing and anti-inflammatory capabilities. This is especially useful for people with sensitive skin or skin conditions such as eczema or neurodermitis.

Clinical studies with home textiles and underwear have proven that smartcel™ sensitive provides relief to people with eczema, allergies, neurodermatitis etc.

Zinc oxide also acts as a shield against harmful UVA and UVB radiation, which can damage our skin cells. Depending on the percentage of smartcel™ sensitive used in any garment, it can provid UPF 50+ (Standard AS/NZS 4339:2017).

Further to this, zinc oxide possesses strong antibacterial properties, especially against odour causing bacteria, which helps to make garments stay fresh longer.*

*For customers in European markets: Please note that zinc, despite its undisputed natural antibacterial properties and the fact that it has long confirmed its status as an essential component in recognized cosmetic products of all kinds, is not listed as a biocide. It must therefore not be used for antibacterial applications in Europe. By contrast, smartcel™ sensitive in the U.S. and Asian markets is based
on specific characteristics of the zinc oxide successfully used and applied in medical and antibacterial products.

Tested quality – demonstrable effects

The smartcel™ sensitive fiber has been positively tested and tested by several independent institutes for its quality as well as its antibacterial and odour-inhibiting properties.

The renowned Hohenstein Institute has tested textile materials with smartcel™ sensitive fibers and confirms “excellent protection” against UVA and UVB rays.

The University of Jena has carried out various tests and confirmed the strong antibacterial effect of smartcel™sensitive. smartcel™ sensitive has been awarded the EU Ecolabel (OEKO-Tex Standard 100) for baby products due to its environmentally friendly and sustainable manufacturing process.

Finished textiles and patterns can be certified free of charge at smartfiber AG.

The Swiss textile testing institute Testex AG confirms the protection factor of UPF 50+.

  • Investigation of in vitro cytotoxicity of textile sample (24h extract, No. 1 201 003, quality certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001: 2008); passed the test against skin irritation and allergic reactions.
